  • The most important aspect of my work for me is the actual act of painting. I want to push myself in the way I apply paint and become more expressive as I progress. I also am interested in seeing the layers of work. This notion of layers seems to be carrying over to my subject matter which I did not place great importance on until I began painting the figure. This idea of the complicated layers of a person offers deeper opportunities for expanding my expression. Ultimately though, I don't think I need a reason to paint something. I don't want to get mired in conceptualization. The point is to paint. Naturally ideas and meanings follow but I think they are unique to each viewer.
